Use Chrome Reading Mode to Read Comfortably and Efficiently

Google Chrome’s Reading Mode significantly enhances the reading experience. Users now have the option to adjust font, text size, letter and line spacing, background color, and more. This inclusive design empowers users to personalize their browsing experience, improving readability and catering to their unique needs and preferences. Whether reading articles, blog posts, eBooks or research papers, Reading Mode enhances users’ ability to consume online content comfortably and efficiently.

Recent readability research demonstrates that personalizing the reading experience can improve a reader’s speed, accuracy, and comprehension. Letter shape, size, and spacing all meaningfully impact reading speed and comprehension. For students, simple typographical changes to text format can produce an immediate 20% increase in reading fluency and a simultaneous 20% increase in reading comprehension. (Sheppard et al.) Use Chrome Reading Mode in the Side Panel

1. On your computer, open Google Chrome 
2. Go to a website with text that you’d like to read
3. At the top right, select  More     > More tools     > Reading mode  
4. Under “Reading mode,” use the toolbar to:
   

   Google Reading Mode: Fonts

• • Adjust the font:  Select the Down arrow 
  • Adjust the font size:  Select    to increase the font size and    to decrease it
  • Change the Reading mode background color:  Select 
  • Change the spacing between lines:  Select 
  • Change the spacing between letters:  Select 

Tip: To pin Reading mode, at the top right of the side panel, select Pin to toolbar
