Readability at
UDL-Con: International
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework for addressing the educational needs of diverse and variable learners in many settings across many stages of life. It is a means to eradicate persistent inequities in education, informed by the educators who use it and their students.
CAST’s Annual Symposium and the UDL-IRN Summit are joining forces to create the world’s largest International UDL Convention. The combined event aims to develop and explore how UDL can be used around the world to break down barriers to learning.
This year’s UDL-Con International will be held online and in-person in Sacramento, California, July 30-31.
Join Readability Matters Founder Kathy Crowley, Dr. Shannon Sheppard of the University of Washington, and Dr. Susanne Nobles of ReadWorks as they discuss student comprehension improvements achieved with better readability.
One Font Doesn’t Fit All: Text Personalization Significantly Impacts Comprehension
July 30th, 2:15-3:15 pm Pacific Time
In-Person Breakout Session
What if, just by reading with a different text format, your students’ comprehension improved? That is exactly what readability researchers have proven. Small typographical changes to text format can enhance an individual’s ability to read quickly and accurately and to comprehend more. Personalized reading formats are the next offering in personalized learning models with the promise, if implemented for students everywhere, to improve educational, career, and life opportunities. Insights from this emerging cross-disciplinary body of work can inform the design of better learning applications.
