Readability Demo Sandbox
Updated for use by School Students
Software developers often create a test environment, called a sandbox, with elements for the intended users to try before the code is built, tested, and deployed. Our Readability Sandboxes provide a unique opportunity for readers to explore and personalize text format features—such as font, character and line spacing, character width, and more—so they can discover what enhances their reading.
We are excited to announce that in addition to the original Readability Sandboxes featuring content for adult readers (Alice in Wonderland and World Education’s Change Agent, The Ripple Effects of Attending Book Club), we have added new, grade-level content for elementary and middle-school students. Parents and educators can use these Readability Sandboxes as valuable tools to help students find their ideal text format to improve their reading experience.
Younger readers can join in The Great Acorn Hunt (Grades 1-2) or help the golden retriever Bella find her balloon in Bella and the Runaway Balloon. Older students can explore a futuristic adventure in The Day a Robot Cleaned My Room (Grade 5) or dive into a cyber career with The Secret World of Espionage and Spies (Grade 8). These stories allow students to experiment with text formats while enjoying age-appropriate content.
For educators, readability enhancements align with the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) guidelines, which emphasize the importance of customizing the display of information to meet diverse learner needs.
Play in the Sandbox today and experience the transformative impact of Readability Features for yourself!
